With the start of the New Year come new beginnings. There have been a couple of changes to our office. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Heidi Locher for the nearly 5 years of service with the OMLTA. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors. The OMLTA is pleased to welcome Hélène Tardif-Ross to the position of Administrative Assistant. She brings a great deal of office experience to the role. We are looking forward to working with Hélène and to having you meet her.

The start of 2013 also means that it is time to renew your OMLTA membership. Renewing your membership ensures that you have access to the members only section of the website, our newsletter Communication, as well as access to various awards, scholarships, information and resources for FSL and International language teachers. In addition, OMLTA members also receive access to discounted conference rates. Please take a few moments to renew your membership and update your information.
Our Editor of Communication, Pina Viscomi, is currently accepting article submissions for the next edition. Please email pictures and/or articles to omlta@omlta.org. The next deadline is January 28. Having our members’ voices appear in the newsletter, highlights the fabulous work that is being done in language classrooms across the province.
We hope to see you at our annual spring conference March 21-23, 2013 at the DoubleTree. Conference Chair Jayne Evans and her committee are busy putting the final touches on the program. This year’s theme is Connections. Registration for our 2013 conference will open soon. Please visit our website for more details. The early bird rate will be available until February 15, 2013.
We are excited about the new changes and look forward to continue to provide our members with excellent service and support.
All the best for 2013!

A teacher can be nominated by anyone – teachers, students, parents, or general public.

I look SO forward to the yearly OMLTA spring conference. It comes at just the right time when we all need our batteries recharged. I return to school on Monday morning after the weekend conference bursting with renewed enthusiasm and ideas that I can hardly wait to implement. I carry in my mind’s eye the group of elementary school boys brought to one of the workshops to demonstrate the AIM program. They were so impressive, earnest (and cute!). But I will remain forever grateful to the OMLTA for giving me the opportunity to further develop my teaching skills through a month of professional development at the stage BELC in France, offered free by the French embassy in Toronto. That was such an enriching PD opportunity from which other students and teachers have benefitted as I have shared the knowledge gained there. I have remained in contact with other French teachers from around the world that I met there. Thank you to the OMLTA and the French embassy in Toronto for helping to build the road to French language acquisition that we are all travelling together as a global community.
