Listen to the Music, Share the Stories, Live the Culture!
Ecoutez la musique, partagez les histoires, vivez la culture!

What a pleasure to invite and welcome you to the 2012 OMLTA/AOPLV conference. Registration and workshop details can be found on our Conference page.

As the soil, however rich it may be cannot be productive without cultivation, so the mind without culture can never produce good fruit.

Can you ever imagine learning a language without Culture? Culture only reinforces and consolidates everything that you learn of that language. In fact, I think it’s the best part of learning a language. I remember early in my second language learning spending time in Quebec and France. The music, the art, the travel and of course the food, it all made it so real for me. So, I hope at the conference this year, you will find the time to Listen to the Music, Share your stories and Live the Culture!

This year, I am thrilled to welcome our keynote speaker, Jowi Taylor. Jowi will be be speaking to the Culture that he has been sharing across Canada with his “Voyageur”, the Six String Nation Guitar. Please do not miss out on this event at our Friday luncheon!

I invite you to take the time to choose the sessions that will enhance your teaching of Culture in the classroom. There are so many wonderful sessions that are provided this year by numerous teachers across Ontario. I want to thank all the educators that submitted workshop proposals and that will be presenting this year.

Active members please log into the members only section to take advantage of the member rates. Not a member? Become a member in our membership section to take advantage of member conference rates.

Nous souhaitons que le Congrès du printemps 2012 vous motivera à continuer l’enseignement et l’apprentissage de la Culture. Bon congrès tout le monde!

2012 Spring Conference Chair

As a member of the Ontario Modern Language Teachers’ Association I am proud to be part of the networking of language teachers across this province. Imagine, OMLTA is celebrating 125 years! That’s quite a milestone. It represents countless hours of work, limitless passion for teaching and learning, and invaluable support from colleague to colleague. Memories of early days at conferences include appreciation for the opportunity to network with so many teachers of French; forum for instructional strategies and resources to be shared; and opportunity to convey the essence of the key-note speaker’s message to colleagues ‘back home’ who did or did not teach French—just because it was so powerful and such a privilege to be there and to hear speakers of such stature as Stephen Lewis-I still wear proudly the pewter lapel pin from that year, “Languages for Peace.” 125 years of OMLTA memories to look back on, and foundation to build on! We’re part of a profession learning more and more about language learning. Looking forward to March, 2011!
