When Maureen Smith asked our pre-service Spanish class to attend the OMLTA conference as student volunteers back in 1998, I never would have imagined 13 years later that I would be chairing the conference.
OMLTA has been a huge part of my teaching career and has not only provided support for teaching Spanish and French, but has also introduced to me to some incredible and inspirational educators, who have continued to inspire my love of language teaching.
Some of my fondest memories of past OMLTA Spring Conferences have been the inspirational words of Stephen Lewis at the Languages for Peace conference, and having Roch Carrier autograph a copy of “Le Chandail de Hockey” to my daughter. In addition, as a recipient of a scholarship offered through the Spanish Embassy, and supported by the OMLTA, I was able to spend a summer in Spain with other teachers of Spanish and further enhanced my teaching and cultural experiences that have helped to enrich my classes.
Here’s to another 125 years!
Looking forward to celebrating with everyone soon!
